MG Hector

  Introduction

Morris Garage aka MG Motors has made their debut in the Indian automotive market with what Indians love, SUV. For those who haven't heard of MG Motors, you probably live on mars. MG is a British car brand owned by a Chinese company. Its been a time since MG motors have launched the Hector, a mid-size SUV and we have covered it for you. The main highlight is its Design elements and its internet connectivity. It is one of the hot-selling mid-size SUVs and rivals Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos, Xuv 500 and Jeep Compass. Without wasting much time, let's get started.

  Engine

MG Motors offers Hector with a petrol engine, a diesel engine and a hybrid variant which comprised electric+petrol engine. The petrol engine is an inline-four 1451cc DOHC setup coupled with a turbocharger. This 1.5L engine produces 141 bhp @5000 rpm and 250Nm @1600rpm. MG is offering in both 6-speed automatic and manual transmission. For the diesel engine, the outputs are 19 bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. For hybrid variant, a 48V DC motor is used along with 1.5L Petrol engine. But currently, only petrol is available with automatic transmission. The engines are quite refined, and gears are well spaced out.

  Exteriors

MG Hector is a mid-size SUV, and the dimensions are well proportioned. It is 4.6m long, 1.7m high and 1.8m wide. The ground clearance is massive at 192mm and gives it a tall boy stance. On looking from the front, we first notice a large whopping front grille with some honeycomb type of finish, but the edges are rounded off here. The big MG logo is placed right in the centre. We get a split Headlamp unit with DRLs on the upper which extends from the corner of the front grille. The main unit is placed on the bumper. The headlights are LEDs and bright enough to lit the roads. These are well surrounded with chrome garnishing which looks premium. The fog lamps are equipped with cornering function always to assist you in the dark. Lower this, we get a front bash plate which looks purposeful.

Front Grille
On the side, we notice some typical SUV elements like squared wheel arches and body cladding all along the lower side. Chunky looking alloy wheels with 215/60 R17 inch rubber. A thin chrome line runs all the way on the lower window line till the tailgate, we also get roof rails with a shark fin antenna. The A, B, C and D pillars are all blackened out, and it receives a floating roofline.
On the rear, the window area is less with LED tail-lights, they are designed such a way that it looks one piece, but it illuminates only on the sides. The rear Fog lamp is also a LED unit. We get a black plastic bumper here with a big bash plate which makes it look better.

  Interior

Dashboard
We are welcome by a leather finished, three-point steering wheel with steering mounted controls. The steering feels solid to hold, and the bottom has been flattened out. The dashboard looks premium. We also get a very good looking speedometer console, and it has an 8.9cm MID to tell us a lot of details such as odometer, two trip meter, distance to empty, fuel consumption, and many more. The start-stop button sits on the left of the steering wheel. The instrument console is vertically mounted touch screen unit, to support this the central air-con vents are also vertical with controls below the screen. The seats are made of fabric with white stitching which offers decent comfort. On the back row, we get three seats with adjustable headrests and centre armrest. There are door pockets on all the doors and a storage area under the front armrest too
