TVS Apache 160 4V Price, Specs, Review || Motojunkie.in

Apache RTR is ruling the commuter market for a decade. It has got everything whatever is needed to satisfy the Indian customer. Apache is known for performance, refinement, good looks, a decent mileage and all this at a pocket-friendly price. Now the Apache RTR Apache has received a comprehensive update, and we have covered everything. This new motorcycle is called 'Apache RTR 160 4V' and as the name suggests its the younger version of Apache 200 4V. The bike is completely new for a 160 and nothing has been carried over from the older version. The older version is still on sale for those who were satisfied with the older and don't wish to get any update.

  Engine

Apache 160 4V gets an all-new single-cylinder, oil-cooled 159.7 cc 4-valve engine. This engine can be opted with a carburettor or EFI option. Carburetted version produces 16.1 bhp of max power and 14.8 Nm of max torque and the output of FI variant are similar with just a 0.2bhp bump of max power. This engine is downsizing of 200 4V which has already proven as a refined engine. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox with one down 4-up pattern. The oil cooling helps to run cooler and extra two valves in better intake and exhaust at higher RPMs. TVS says that oil cooling has helped in cooling the engine by a 10 deg Celcius.  The wet multi-plate clutch has a light feel like the older model. EFI version uses a 16 bit Bosch Electronic Fuel Injection Module and the responsive feel can be felt riding back to back. The carburetted is also good, and the ride doesn't feel too laggy.

  Suspension and Brakes

Apache is designed for the race track. The chassis and suspension are inspired from the TVS 165 Race Cup motorcycle. TVS has developed a new frame and is named Double Cradle Split Synchro STIFF chassis which is also used in Apache 200 4V and this balanced chassis has a front end feel to it.
For the front suspension, we get 43mm fat conventional telescopic, and on the rear, we get a race-tuned Showa mono-shock directly from Apache 200 4V. The ride quality is a balance between comfort and track and is acceptable.

For stopping this motorcycle we get a front 270 mm disc with dual-piston callipers, and for the rear, we get an optional drum for carburettor variant, EFI has dual disc brake as standard. The rear disc is 200 mm in dia with a single-piston calliper. We get single-channel ABS for the front wheel, and Apache is saying as the Supermoto ABS. It is useful on track, but on the road, you may lock the rear wheel.

Both the wheels are 17 inches six-spoke alloy unit. The front one comes with a 90/90 section tyre and rear is 110/80 for the carburettor variant and 130/70 for EFI variant. The rubber used in the tyre is TVS own tyres which offer decent feedback and optional Pirelli for extra grip.

  Aesthetics

Apache is now identical to its elder sibling and is very difficult to differentiate between two. On the front, we get the same headlamp with halogen bulbs and LED find me lamps or DRLs. Above the headlight, the instrument console is borrowed from the elder sibling.  The tank is muscular with extended tank shrouds and offsets fuel filler cap exactly like 200 4V. On the tank, we get the silver-coloured stripe on the centre and checkered flag on the sides. Lower side panels are also finished in silver, and this is what makes it different than 2004V. The seat is a single-piece unit and is roomier and comfortable than before. The rear is identical with the same LED tail lamp like the 200 4V.

It also gets a dual-barrel exhaust for the bassy exhaust note, and here also TVS designers were on rest and used a 200 4V exhaust. The design is based on the Draken concept showcased in AutoExpo. The motorcycle is now muscular and looks a complete package for young and college students.
