2020 Hyundai Creta BS6|| Review|| MotoJunkie

Introduction

Hyundai Creta has recently received an update as a next gen Creta. For starters, Creta is a midsize crossover SUV sold in India by a Korean manufacturer Hyundai. It is based on its Kia Seltos which it will be rivaling. Thanks to BS-6 norms that get us a new Hyundai Creta. It now looks well and is updated according to the Hyundai’s new design language. The car looks modern and is sharper one. Hyundai Creta is priced between 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs INR and that offers a ton of variants to choose from. Creta has now completely changed how it looks and how it drives and we have got you covered.

Engine

The most selling older 1.6L CRDi 16V diesel engine and older petrol engine has been discontinued. Now, we get all new BS-VI compliant 1.4L Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine, 1.5L CRDi Diesel Engine and a 1.5L MPi petrol engine.
Turbo1.4L GDi

Let’s first talk about the 1.5L petrol Engine. This is an inline-4, DOHC 1497cc petrol engine. This engine produces 113bhp of max power and 144Nm of max torque. This engine is offered in the lower trims of the Creta paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-step CVT automatic gearbox. This CVT is equipped with manual override and sport mode for that enthusiastic feel. This engine is claimed to return a fuel economy around 18kmpl.

Next is the 1.5L diesel engine. This is a turbocharged inline-4, DOHC 1493 cc motor producing 113 bhp of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed Automatic Transmission. This engine claims to return fuel economy around 21kmpl. This is the only diesel engine which will be offered from Korean manufacturer.

There is another petrol engine, a powerful 1.4L Turbo Kappa GDi motor. This engine produces max. power of 138 bhp and 242 Nm of torque. But, this engine only mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission and there's no manual option. The good thing is that we get first in segment, steering mounted paddle shifters to take manual control over the transmission. This engine gives ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of 16.8kmpl. This combination is only available in higher variants.

Exterior

Hyundai has adapted its new design language which was earlier seen on the Hyundai Venue and international models of SantaFe and Tucson. Creta is designed similar to make it look like a part of the family. On the front, we get a new big and bold signature cascading grill. The headlamps have been completely redesigned, it is called as trio beam LED headlamps which consists of three LED projector pods and a big three piece DRL as well. DRL starts from top of headlamp and extends to the side with two breaks in the strip. Below the DRL lies newly designed Foglamps, the turn indicators are also incorporated in the same housing. Moving further we spot a new big skid plate to give a tough SUV stance.
Moving on the side, the newly designed sharper 17 inch wheels which catch the attention. Further we get C-pillar finished in silver across all colours and trims with blackened out A-pillar and B-pillar. The door handles are chrome-dipped. We also get a shark fin antenna and small roof-rails which doesn't seems practical.
Moving onto rear, some might like it while others don't. The glass area is reduced and I guess there are a bit more cuts and creases. The LED tail-lamp is a reflection of the 3-piece DRL. On the centre we get a brake light strip which doesn't look good. Below that lies the Hyundai badging and Creta lettering. The skid plate is evident on the rear bumper as well. We also get a rear spoiler and rear wiper. We even get first in class dual tip exhaust.

Interior

Black & orange
Like the exterior, the interior of the Creta has completely overhauled. There are two trims of the interior as well. One is a Dual-tone black and orange interior and other is black and griege interior. We get th griege inetrior in optional variants. Every other thing is common just there is a colour change. Starting with steering wheel, we see a new design here, it is a four-spoke flat-bottom or the D-cut steering wheel, with steering wheel mounted controls. The red interior even has red stitching on the steering wheel as well. The instrument cluster is a 7-inch digital unit which surely looks good and it changes its colour according to the drive modes. Moving towards left and there are two slim horizontal AC vents above the massive 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display which is followed by Automatic Air-Con controls. This screen supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto and Hyundai BlueLink connectivity as well.
Black & Griege
The front seats are very comfortable with good side bolsters and adjustable headrest. We also gets cooled or rather ventilated seats to beat the heat. There is also blue ambient lighting across the dash.
For the rear seats, first time we get neck-cushions which adds to the comfort level. We also get manual sun-blinds for the rear windows.

Safety

We have now started to focus a bit on safety of the cars. So this car gets ABS with EBD standard across the range. Hyundai says that this chassis is more stronger one. We also have Vehicle stability management and Electronic Stability Control. Hill Assist Control, Iso-fix child seat mounts, rear disc brakes for added bite and grip. Creta is equipped with a max of 6-Airbags. It also have Anti-theft alarm which is called Burglar alarm.
