Introduction

Hyundai Aura
Hyundai Aura is a sub-compact sedan under-4 metres launched in Jan 2020. It is based on the latest 3rd gen i10 Nios. Aura replaces the Xcent based on older i10 as it was on production for 5 years. Aura is just a new name to the Xcent. It rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Tata Tigor and Volkswagon Ameo.

Engine & Transmission

Since this car is based on Grand i10 Nios and Venue also shares the same platform, the engine configuration for all three vehicle remains same. There are three engines are powering the Hyundai Aura, a 1.2L petrol, a 1.2L diesel and a 1.0L turbo petrol. The 1.2L is a 1197cc inline-3  Kappa Dual VTVT Petrol Engine produces 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The 1.2 Diesel is a 1186cc inline-3 Eco TORQ Diesel Engine producing 74 bhp at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm at 1750 rpm. The 1.0 L is a 998cc inline-3 turbo GDi petrol engine producing 99bhp at 6000rpm and 172 Nm at 1500 rpm. All these engines are BS6 compliant engines.
These engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT with manual over-ride. There is a CNG option for 1.2L petrol engine in the base model for taxi options.

Exteriors

The design is same as the Grand i10 with just an extended boot. Starting with the front, we get a satin finished chrome grill with 3-D mesh. and on the edges we get twin boomerang shaped LED DRLs. The mesh on the grill and twin DRLs distinguish it from the i10 Nios. It gets single halogen projector sweptback headlamps with a thin chrome outline. Lower on the bumper there are projector fog lamps with chrome surrounds which give a upmarket feel to it. On the side of the fog lamps there are functional scoops which draws air in an help to cool the brakes and tires and they result in increased fuel efficiency too.

Coming to the side of the car, it doesn't feels out of place. The extended boot design is merged so well that it looks as an original part. Hyundai has tried to give it a coupe like roof line. The B-pillar and C-pillars are blackened out and gives it a floating roof. The electric ORVMs are said that they have been designed aerodynamically and have a sleek turn indicator on them as well. The Exterior door handles are chrome dipped and only the driver side gets a request sensor. Lower down we get funky diamond cut R15 alloy wheels. These wheels are supported by 175/65 R15 tires and on lower variants we get 165/70 R14 tires which a 14 inch steel wheel.

The rear of the Aura is completely new, we get Z- shaped split LED tail-lamps with chrome outline as in the case of headlamps. Then there is a thick chrome bar connecting the tail-lamps on the boot-lid. The rear bumper is sharp and resembled the front. The lower half is finished in Black plastic to reduce the visual bulk.

Interior

Interior for the Aura has been carried over from the Nios with a minor colour changes. It gets a sporty 3-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. The instrument cluster is a part-analog part-digital unit. Only the rev-counter is a analogue and the speedo and MID are integrated in a TFT screen. On the centre of the dash, there is an 8-inch touch screen with Andoid Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. This screen is also shared with Nios. Below lies two horizontal AC vents. The extreme AC vents are circular and tried to give a windmill kind of look to them. If you know Nios, you would be like Ok, then what is changed here? Answer to this is absolutely nothing. In Nios the dual tone interior is black and white coloured, here it is black and off-white. The garnish on the dash is now brown in colour which was white in case of Nios. The rear seat comfort and features remains identical. It gets a centre armrest with twin cup holders and adjustable head-rests. The rear AC vents are placed on front armrest along with a 12V socket. The semi-fabric seat upholstery gets brown accents. Boot size is increased to 402 litres and is equipped with a luggage lamp.
The GDi variant gets an all-black interior with red accents and stitching which matches the sporty feel from the GDi engine.

Safety

Hyundai Aura is built on the new platform and Hyundai claims it to be a stronger one with 65% AHSS and HSS steel. It gets front two airbags standard across the range. ABS and EBD are provided for better braking as standard feature. Rear parking sensors are also standard for all variants. There is also Emergency stop signal which flashed rear tail lamp under panic braking conditions. It also gets rear view camera option which enable to activate the camera while driving forward also.
