  Overview

Skoda Karoq is a 5-seater, compact crossover SUV launched in May 2020, it is one of the three Skoda cars launched digitally during the lockdown, the other two are Skoda Rapid and Superb. Karoq is based on VW MQB platform and is the Skoda's counterpart of the VW T-Roc. It is inspired from the bigger Kodiaq and is much more feature loaded than the T-Roc. It is the size of Creta but due to hefty price tag, it rivals Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson, VW T-Roc etc. Skoda Karoq replaces the Skoda Yeti.

  Engine & Performance
1.5 L TSI Engine

The powerplant for the Karoq is shared with the T-Roc, the 1.5 L TSI engine. It is a 1498cc inline-4, turbocharged, DOHC petrol engine producing 145 bhp at 5000 rpm and 250Nm of torque at 1500 rpm. A 3 bhp lower than T-roc. This engine also powers other VW group cars like the Karoq.  This engine is equipped with intelligent ACT, Active Cylinder Technology senses you driving pattern and it shuts off two cylinders out of four to increase the fuel efficiency. All this happens super fast that it is almost unnoticeable. This engine comes with only Automatic transmission, the 7-speed DSG. It is super fast and responsive, got steering mounted paddles to take the manual control over the things.

  Exteriors

Karoq gets a Kodiaq inspired styling, thats why we said it the baby Kodiaq. It features a big signature Skoda grill with vertical slats surrounded by chrome. The hood has been sculpted the same way as Kodiaq. On the side of the griil we get full automatic LED headlamp setup. In the lower pat of headlamp we get LED DRLs, similar way like the Kodiaq. Below that, we get LED Fog lamps and beside the fog lamps, we get Headlight washers. These all are mounted high on the bumper and in the lower part we get honeycomb mesh grill which is blocked at the sides to draw air for the radiators. The lower part of bumper is finished in black cladding plastic to remove the visual bulk and adding SUV elements to it.

Coming to the side of the car, it again reminds of the Kodiaq. It gets squared-off wheel arches with black cladding all around the car. In those wheel arches lies the 17 inch diamond-cut, dual tone Anthracite alloy wheels with 215/55 R17 tyres. We get body colored door handles and dual tone ORVMs. These electric adjustable and retractable with mounted LED turn indicators. The B pillar is blackened out and the rear quarter-glass is quite a big one. There is chrome surround for windows which enhances the premiumness. On the roof we get silver functional roof rails, a shark-fin antenna and a big panoramic sunroof.
Coming to the rear, it looks clean, it gets a body colored integrated roof spoiler with stop lamp mounted. Sleek C-shaped LED tail-lamps are mounted on a sculpted hatch-door. There is a big Skoda lettering and no logo, which gives a minimalist look. The bumper is black plastic with LED rear fog lamps.

  Interiors

Karoq gets a dual tone Stone-Beige leather interior. We are welcomed with Skoda welcome logo projection under front door. Then we have a 3-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls and paddle shifters. Behind that wheel lies the Virtual Cockpit instrumentation screen, I will not talk about it, we have already seen on many VW cars. Then we have two vertical air conditioner vents and in the middle there is an 8-inch Amundsen touch screen display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and SmartLink connectivity. The AC vents have silver surround to them. The gear selector is also finished in leather. The seats are leather made and the driver seat is 12 way electric adjustable with three memory presets. The front armrest have a storage space under it and rear AC vents behind it. It gets a wireless charging mat in front of the gear selector. The interior gets color programmable ambient lighting to make up the mood. The foot pedals are made up of Aluminium which gives a premium appeal. The rear seats are comfortable with adjustable headrest and centre armrest with dual cup holder. The B-pillar gets a Coat hanger and the rear seats are 60:40 split. The boot size is top class at 521 litres and can be increased upto 1630 litres with seats down.
