Volkswagen T-Roc Price, Specs, Review || MotoJunkie

  Overview

Volkswagen T-roc is a 5-seater subcompact crossover SUV (B-Segment) showcased by Volkswagen in AutoExpo 2020 and launched in March 2020. It was launched in 2017 in the global market, and when are introduced to it, germans get the cabriolet version of the T-roc. It is based on the VW MQB platform which also underpins the Audi A3, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Koriaq and many other cars which we do not get here. T-roc is a younger sibling of Tiguan and gets some design elements inspired from it. VW T-roc rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector but since it gets an hefty price tag, it competes with Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson.

  Engine & Transmission
1.5 L TSI engine

Volkswagen group have taken down all the diesel engines from its car, be it Skoda, Audi or Volkswagen, these are now all petrol cars and the main reason is the BS6 or EuroVI norms. The diesels are expensive to meet the regulations and then the price tag will also jump higher making them in accessible. Let's leave this for a separate blog. T-roc is powered by a 1.5L TSI motor. It is a 1498cc inline-4, turbocharged, DOHC petrol engine producing 148 bhp at 5000 rpm and 250Nm of torque at 1500 rpm. This engine also powers other VW group cars like the Karoq.  This engine is equipped with intelligent ACT, Active Cylinder Technology senses you driving pattern and it shuts off two cylinders out of four to increase the fuel efficiency. All this happens super fast that it is almost unnoticeable. This engine comes with only Automatic transmission, the 7-speed DSG. It is super fast and responsive, got steering mounted paddles to take the manual control over the things. VW once gave a 2.0L TSI motor in foreign market and it can reach from 0-100 kmph in just 4.9 secs, this 1.5 TSI will take around 9 seconds, isn't that scary fast?

  Exteriors

The design cues are inspired from the Tiguan, It gets a similar looking LED headlamps, in the middle lies a medium sized grille with VW logo and signature two horizontal lines, honeycomb mesh is placed behind it. Then there is a chrome strip connecting the headlamps on the top of the grille and a chrome strip underlining the grill and headlamps together. It really gives a premium look to it. Lower down we get LED DRLs around the fake air vent style on the bumper and below it lies the halogen fog lamp. The bumper also gets an aluminium finished bash plate which enhances the sporty appeal. There is another honeycomb grill on the bumper to draw in more air. The lower bumper with the bog lamps is made of black plastic.
R17 Mayfield Wheels
Coming to the side of the car and it looks like a baby Tiguan here too, We get bulging out round wheel arches, black plastic cladding is all around the lower part of the car and the wheel arches. The plastic cladding gives an SUV and rugged feel to the car. To fill in those wheel arches, we get diamond cut 17 inch Mayfield wheels, I don't know what Mayfield stood here. These wheels get 215/55 R17 wheels. T-roc comes in dual tone finish with gloss black roof. The A-pillar and B-pillar are also finished in gloss black, there is a thin chrome strip running on the top of window line. The C-pillar is body coloured and the chrome divides it from the roof and gives a floating roof-line. On the roof we get a black shark in antenna and silver functional roof rails. The upper ORVMs are gloss black and lower part is finished in body black plastic. They gets turn indicators mounted them as well. The door handles gets no extra treatment, they are just body coloured.
Coming to the rear of the car, we get LED tail lamps, and I must say they look amazing. On the top we get a black spoiler and a spoiler mounted stop lamps. The tailgate is well sculpted and looks clean. We only get centre mounted VW logo and below that T-Roc badge and nothing else. The bumper gets halogen fog lamps in a blocked honeycomb air vent style housing. then lower we get a black cladding bumper which is separated by a chrome line. On the bumper we get dual port exhausts with chrome surrounds. We also gets a rear diffuser kind of skid plate to save that precious paint.

  Interiors

Inside of the car, we get a flat bottom, leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, the steering wheel is familiar and provided in many other VW group cars. The instrument cluster is typical VW style or we can say Audi style. It gets a big TFT with two big digital dials, one for tacho and other for speedo and a MID in centre. The dials are super clean and I personally loved them. They get a lots of info to show. Then we have a 8-inch touch-screen infotainment display mounted between vertical trapezoidal air vents. This screen supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity with Navigation. The dashboard certainly looks premium. We get a adjustable armrest with storage space and rear AC vents mounted on its back with a 12V socket. The seats upholstery is leather and the DCT gear selector is also wrapped in leather. The front two seats gets heating function which I think is just a waste in tropical Indian climate. We get a big panoramic sunroof to let the light and air inside the cabin. The rear seats are also comfortable and can seat three people, we get a centre armrest with cup holders. The door handles are finished in chrome, we get door pockets too. The rear seats are 60:40 split and boot can be accessed through them. The boot size is 445 litres which is enough for long vacation trips.
8.0 in touch screen

We get six airbags in this car, including side curtains, ABS with EBD and Brake assist,Electronic skid Regulation and Traction Control System. The ORVMs have heated function to clear of the dew. It gets disc brake for all the four wheels and the wheel studs bolts have a cover to them. It gets TPMS to track the tire temp and pressure. It also gets Electronic Stability Control.
