Honda Dio BS-IV

  Introduction

Honda Dio is an 110cc scooter launched by HMSI in 2001. It is a sporty version of Honda Activa. Dio uses the same engine and platform from its sibling and promises for sporty youth friendly looks. Dio is for someone who does not like the bulky design of Activa and the fact that every other guy has one, he goes to college but sport bikes are out of his league. Mostly students opt for the Dio. Honda has been committed to its scooter market in India and timely updates them. In 2020, we get a BS6 compliant engine with few design changes. Currently there is no direct competition to Dio, earlier Maestro Edge and Yamaha Ray and RayZR were the competitions but they haven't received the BS6 update. The other options available are Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter.

  Engine & Gearbox

Dio gets an Activa based BS6 compiant 110cc engine. It is a new 109.5 cc fan-cooled SOHC petrol engine producing 7.6 bhp at 8000rpm and 8.79 Nm at 5250 rpm. The power figures are a lower than previous model as they have to make this engine less vulnerable to the environment. The fueling is done with the help of PGMFi. This motor is now fuel injected which makes it smoother than ever and the throttle is also responsive. The engine is mated to V-matic CVT like the before with a centrifugal clutch.

  Styling

Dio has received a fresh styling update to match the current scenario. On the front, the handlebar cowl gets sharper lines and now looks sleek. The centre of the cowl is extended to mimic the visor. On the cowl we get V-shaped LED DRL which was first seen on the BS4 update. The DRL is also revised and looks quite funky. Lower on the apron we get dual tone treatment as always, but the panels are revised. It looks extremely sporty on the front. The headlamp is LED but again the design is all new, even the turn indicators gets new design. Below the headlamp the panels gets fake air vents design. Lower we get to see telescopic suspensions and a very sleek and sporty mudguard.

On the sides too the design has been enhanced with new panels. We get retractable foot pegs which were not present earlier. The side cowls for foot-board gets carbon finish panels. The seat is low at 650 mm and high ground clearance of 160 mm. All these dimensions are related with the Activa. On the Deluxe variant we get chrome 3D Dio logo and on base variant we get funky sticker kit. The grab handles are now body coloured and we get split grab rail setup. It looks ultimate.

On the rear, the changes are evident. We get new design tail lamp but it is halogen and the turn indicators have been reworked too. The mudguard cum number plate holder also gets some sharp lines. The exhaust cover has also been redesigned and tried to give a sleek look to it.

  Wheels, Brakes and Suspension

In the BS6 update Honda has solved all the concerns of customer. Now all the scooter in Honda line up gets front telescopic suspension.  The rear suspension is a 3-step adjustable hydraulic mono-shock. This one is same like the older variants. For the wheels, now it gets a front 12 inch wheel and a 10 inch rear wheel. The wheels are steel rims and the front gets a 90/90-12 tires and a 90/90-10 tires for rear. The steel rims are painted in  gold on deluxe variant and black for base variant. Braking is done with the help of drum brakes. There are 130 mm drums for rear as well as front. There is a combi brake for more reducing stopping distance.
