 Introduction

Hyundai i20 is the premium hatchback offering from the Korean manufacturer. Hyundai launched the first gen i20 in 2008. It has been a great success for Hyundai and on November 5,2020 they launched the third generation of the premium hatchback. It competes with Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz and Maruti Suzuki Swift.  Here is the the first look review of it.

Engine & Performance

Hyundai i20 is powered by three engine option: a 1.2 petrol, a 1.5 diesel and a 1l turbo petrol engine. The 1.2 L Kappa petrol is a 1197cc inline 4 naturally aspirated engine producing 87 bhp at 6000rpm and 115 Nm at 4200 rpm.
The 1.5 L Diesel is a 1492cc inline-4 DOHC turbocharged diesel producing 99 bhp at 4000 rpm and 240 Nm at 1500 Nm. Then there is 1.0L inline-3 turbo GDi engine which produces 118 bhp at 6000 rpm and 172 Nm at 1500 rpm.
For the transmission we have manuals, CVT, iMT and DCT gearboxes. The 1.2 L petrol comes with a 5-speed manual or a CVT transmission. The diesel engine gets only 6 speed manual whereas turbo Gdi engine gets iMT and DCT gearbox.

Exteriors


Hyundai i20 got a generation update thus the exterior is completely overhauled. Starting with the front, it gets a new facia somewhat similar to the outgoing verna. It gets sleek headlamp unit witha halogen projector and halogen indicators , on the upper part lies the LED DRL. The grill is massive and available in piano black finish with Turbo engine. The bumper lower down is also designed very sporty and edgy.

Coming to the sides and you will notice a lots of cuts and creases all around. Chrome line underlining the window area extends to the c pillar cover the quarter glass as well. We get chrome door handles, the ORVMs have been designed aerodynamically with dual tone finish. It gets 195//55-16 wheels with 16 inch dual tone diamond cut alloys to fill in those wheel arches.
On the rear, the design is quite funky and busy as well. There is a subtle roof spoiler on the top. The Z-shaped tail lamps are connected with a chrome lining running across the width of car. The boot lid above this line is finished in black. Lower, we see a nice bumper with some sort of diffuser finish on its lower part.

Interiors


Entering Hyundai i20, you are welcomed by a leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls which has done duties in Creta and Venue as well. The we get a fully digital instrument cluster with a TFT MID in the centre. It gets the blue theme because it has a Blue ambient lighting all around. Then we have a huge 10.2 inch infotaiment display with Blu Link connectivity, apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto. Below the screen lies two AC vents which extends all the way to the left vent. Below it we get controls for automatic AC and lower we get charging ports along with cooled wireless charging.
The seats are supportive and driver gets a front armrest with storage and a centrally mount air purifier. The armrest has charging ports for the rear passengers along with storage for mobile phone. The rear passengers gets a armrest too. The seats are supportive but gets only too adjustable headrests. Boot storage capacity is at 311 liters which is enough.

Safety


Hyundai i20 gets up to six airbags with ABS and EBD standard. It gets Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Start Assist and Electronic Stability Control. It gets Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS which is a segment first feature. It gets emergency stop signal lamps, reverse camera with active guidelines and Driver rear view monitor feature too.
