Yamaha R15 v4 launched in India at Rs. 1.68 lakhs. First look || MotoJunkie.in

Yamaha has launched R15v4 and R15M in India; it was a global debut for the world, but we are the first to get it in our market. It is a proud moment as a big Japanese pioneer considers India their main market, and Global debut is made from India. We had seen a test mules spy shots and were confused whether we will be having new-gen R3 or is this R15v4. The confusion is sorted out. Yamaha has first time launched an M version of R15. There are subtle changes in version 4 than what was in the earlier version. Let's have a look.

  Engine & Gearbox

The powerplant is carried over from the v3. It is the same 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine equipped with VVA tech. It produces 18.4Ps  at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm 7500 rpm. It gets the same 6-speed gearbox coupled through a slip and assists clutch. The update is in the form of the addition of a Traction Control System and an optional Quick-Shifter. There are two riding modes as well: Street and Track. Yes, you read that right. Quick-Shifter is standard on Racing Blue, but you can get it at an additional cost to Red or Dark-Knight.

  Design

The changes are mostly in the design department. R15v4 gets a complete design revamped. Starting from the front look, the front is now inspired by the newly launched Yamaha R7. It gets a single bifunctional projector unit placed in the centre. It has both high beam and low beam function, also seen on MT15. On the sides of the projector, we get LED DRLs placed, and the shape is inspired by the R15 v3 headlamp. Yamaha says the small-size of projector unit has helped them in getting a more aerodynamic front cowl.

From the side, the design is changed but still like an R15. It has become more aerodynamic and looks like a bigger bike than v3. The tank is more sculpted and should provide more grip. The seats are a bit longer. The rear aero panel has also been redesigned along with under-seat plastic. The rear footrest is now bolted on the frame with new hangers. We can remove them easily to lose some weight for track days. The rear tail lamp is the same as before. The turn signal indicators are the same halogen and did not go with this new-gen design.

  Suspension & Brakes

Finally, Yamaha has given front Upside Down Fork tubes for Indian spec model too. Yamaha R3, MT15 and R15v3 gets USD Globally but not for India. This time no discriminations and no cost cutting. When KTM 125s are getting them why cant R15 have them. These are 37mm diameter and will provide a better confidence on turns. The rear is a mono-shock as on v3.
The wheels and tyre size is also same, both 17 inch wheels with same design. Rear tyre is a 140 section.

Brake duties are handled by 282 mm front and 220 mm rear disc. Equipped with dual channel ABS to avoid lock up during panic braking.
Chassis is same Deltabox with same Aluminum swingarm.

  Features

Yamaha has given a whole new LCD screen for the v4. It has tons of information and has Bluetooth Connectivity through Y-Connect app.
Starting from Left, cluster has a Gear position indicator, moving to left it shows Street mode or TRack mode. These are modes for cluster Track mode shows, Latest Lap time and Fastest lap time, Street mode shows Avg. mileage, avg. speed, coolant temperature and battery power.
