2022 KTM RC Launched at Rs. 2.09 lakhs, Review || MotoJunkie

It was 2012, when KTM launched its line up in India, We back then have Duke 200, RC 200, Duke 390 and RC 390. Since then, the duke twins have got minor updates but RC was bone stock as it was earlier, RC 390 got equipment upgrade later where it had ride by wire, ABS mode and upswept exhaust. But RC 200 was the same as it came in 2012, just few paint scheme updates and engine meeting the emissions regulations. After almost ten years, we now get to witness a whole new RC 200. It has launched first in India and it will hit global market next years. It is a kind of proud feeling that brand like KTM and Yamaha are preferring Indian market first. So, what's in 2022 RC 200? let's find out.

  Engine & Gearbox

Except for this department, RC 200 is all new. It still uses the same BS6 compliant, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC 199.5cc petrol engine. This engine is linked to same 6-speed transmission and continues to produces 25.4 bhp of max power and 19 Nm of peak torque. KTM has re-engineered the airbox and made it bigger, more airflow to the engine has resulted in responsiveness, improved torque and power curve and is smoother. KTM has also improved on cooling, 2022 RC 200 gets a curved radiator, it increases the surface area and can trap in more air to flow through it. So now, it will be easy to ride RC in traffic as well.

  Suspension, Brakes and Wheels

KTM has developed a new trellis frame chassis, it is lighter and stiffer than the old one. The rear sub-frame is bolted on and together they lost 1.5 kg and added more stability. The chassis is powder coated, gets black colour in front and orange for subframe. Suspension duties are taken care by same WP Apex big piston 43mm USD forks in the front and WP mono-shock at the rear. The swingarm is carrier over to 2022 RC 200. But since this one is lighter by 9 kg, the suspension will compress less making it more track focused and agile.

2022 RC 200 gets same braking setup, 320mm disc in the front with 4 pot radially mounted brembo caliper and 230 mm disc at rear with floating caliper. The disc in the front has been optimized and now saves 960 gm of un-sprung mass.

Wheel on this have also been redesigned, they now have fewer spokes and open hubs for less weight. They have successfully managed to save almost 1 kg of rotational mass, this will result in very sharp direction changes, which will be easy for track and also for zipping through city traffic.

  Design

Design of 2022 KTM RC 200 has been completely overhauled, it is all new and aerodynamic, earlier one looked very sharp, but now its gone for good. Starting from front, it gets a Duke390 derived LED headlamps, LED DRLs and turn indicators are integrated in the front fairing. On the top it gets laser, bubble visor for added aero and optimal visibility. The mirrors are also wide and foldable, they are also designed consider the air flow. Lower down, the front fender has also been redesigned, it is an new two piece unit and offers better cooling for brakes and draws air towards the radiator.

On the sides, fairing gets very sharp cuts and creases for air flow. The fairing has been optimized for aerodynamics using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). The fuel tank is bigger now, 13.7 litre, it is narrow and large enough to grip the motorcycle firmly. Fuel capacity has been increased due to reposition of battery.

The upper T clamp is also new, it now gets raised clip-ons by 15 mm, these are proper clip-on handlebars and can be adjusted by 10 mm. The seat is a also new, thicker, firmer and wider. It offers better grip and rider movement on the saddle. Pillion seat also gets new foam, texture and design for added comfort. The foot-pegs and foot pedals and now foldable, which prevent them from breaking during fall and cornering.

The tail panels are also new and sharp, tail light is also new and sleeker than before.

  Features & Electronics

2022 KTM RC 200 gets new all LED lights, it also gets LCD instrument cluster, derived from KTM Adventure 250. It ain't much but in this era of connected automobiles RC 200 should also get a connected feature. Dash gets tachometer, speedometer, odometer, twin trip meter, fuel guage, temp guage, clock and gear position indicator. It gets dual channel ABS and now SuperMoto ABS mode has been added, we have already seen it on other KTMs and is very useful on track.
