Hyundai Verna Facelift BS6 || Price, Review, Variants || MotoJunkie

Introduction

Hyundai launched the Verna in 2006 in the Indian Auto market. It is the third generation Hyundai Accent. Recently, Hyundai has given a facelift for the 3rd gen Hyundai Verna with new BS6 engine options. Hyundai Verna belongs to the C-segment sedan class in India. The earlier 2nd global generation was called Accent and was in production till 2009. 2nd gen Verna became a hit in the Indian market due to its fuel-efficient yet punchy diesel engine. Without wasting much time lets get directly on to the changes in this car.

Engine & Transmission

The older 1.4 and 1.6 petrol and diesel engines are discontinued. Now Hyundai Verna is powered by three engine options, a 1.5L petrol engine, a 1.5L diesel engine and a 1L petrol engine.
The 1.5 L MPi petrol engine is a 1497 cc, inline-4 cylinder DOHC engine producing 113 bhp of max power and 144 Nm of max torque. This engine is mated with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-step CVT with sport mode.
The 1.5 L CRDi diesel is a 1493 cc inline-4, turbocharged DOHC engine. It produces 113 bhp and a max torque of 250 Nm. This engine is mated to 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed AM Transmission.
There is another 1.0 L Kappa GDi turbocharged, inline-4, DOHC petrol engine. It produces 118 bhp of max power and 172 Nm of max torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT. The manual transmissions are carried over the older model. All these engine and gearbox combinations are shared with Creta as well

Exterior

This face-lifted Verna has so many design updates. Starting from the front, we will first notice the big signature cascading chrome radiator grille. It has grown in size and extends till headlamps. The next big change is the swept-back headlamps. The LED DRLs with projector headlamps are now sharper. The front bumper has been redesigned to look sharper and features projector fog lamps. The lower lip of the bumper gets some chrome treatment as well.
On the side, we get new 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The outside rearview mirror has been redesigned as well with new turn signal indicator. There is new chrome lining running through the windows and we get chrome door handles as well.
The rear tail lamp cluster now features LED tail-lamp. The bumper is new too with some fake air vents as well. It also features chrome strip for that upmarket appeal.
The DCT variant has a piano-black grille with chrome delete. The rear bumper is sporty looking and has twin tip muffler.

Interior

Verna receives a dual-tone, beige and black interior. The huge disappointment here is the old round 3-spoke steering wheel instead of newer flat-bottom steering, yet we get multi controls on the steering wheel. The instrument cluster is a fully digital unit with a colour TFT MID as well. On the right is a tachometer and speedo on the left. The start-stop button is placed on the right side of the steering wheel. The centre of the dashboard contains an 8-inch smart touchscreen infotainment display. It has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity as well as Blulink connectivity. The screen is surrounded by vertical AC vents on each side. Below the touch screen unit lies the Automatic Air-con controls and down there lies a wireless mobile charging. We get First in segment ventilated seats which are already seen on Creta.
For the rear passengers, there is an ample amount of room with a centre armrest with twin cup holders. The Aircon vents are placed on the rear of the front slide-able armrest.
The turbo DCT variant has All black interior with red highlights for that enthusiastic feel.

Safety

From the safety point of view, Verna is pretty safe as we get dual airbags as standard and up to six airbags in higher trims. It also has Electronic Stability Control ESP to take control on sharp turns. It features Impact auto door unlock which unlocks the car automatically when it senses the collision. The emergency stop signal lamp flashes out when it senses sudden brakes. The Turbo DCT model also has front parking signals.
