MG Hector Plus

  Overview

As the name suggests it is a plus variant of MG Hector. MG Hector is a re-badged version of Baojun 530 produced by SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry China). It is sold in different markets with different names. MG Motors is a British origin brand which has been acquired by SAIC. The MG cars in India are manufactured in the GM Auto facility in Gujrat. MG Hector Plus is a six-seater variant of MG Hector and MG is marketing it as an MPV while the 5-seater Hector is an SUV. Hector Plus rivals the Mahindra XUV 5OO and Toyota Innova Crysta, there is Tata Gravitas coming soon to the list.

  Engine & Transmission

Hector Plus gets zero changes in the power-train. It gets same 1.5L petrol engine, a 2.0L multi-jet Diesel engine and a hybrid engine. The petrol engine is an inline-four 1451cc DOHC setup coupled with a turbocharger. This 1.5L engine produces 141 bhp @5000 rpm and 250Nm @1600rpm. MG is offering in both 6-speed automatic and manual transmission. For the diesel engine, the outputs are 190 bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. For hybrid variant, a 48V DC motor is used along with 1.5L Petrol engine. The petrol engine gets DCT Automatic while all others are 6-speed manual transmissions.

  Exteriors

MG had made some significant changes to distinguish it from the smaller counterpart. On the front the top mounted LED DRLs have been changed. They now features a funky design. The grill is same but it gets chrome studded to it which makes it look premium. On the centre we get a big MG logo and below that a front camera. The front bumper has been redesigned and the headlamp cluster is all new. It now gets a single projector and a halogen fog lamp below it and looks quite funky. Lower on the bumper we now get a aluminium bash plate too.

On the side, the car has grown longer to accommodate 3rd row, it is now 4702 mm in length, all other proportions remains the same. The body cladding runs throughout the car. The machined dual tone alloys are carried over with same 215/60 R17 wheels There is a chrome line under the window area. The changes are not much evident other than the length.

On the rear we get new designed LED tail lights. The red strip below the lights have been replaced by a thinner chrome strip. The rear bumper has been reworked and gets fake twin exhaust ports, however there is a single pipe below it. The skid plate has been added to the rear as well.

  Interior

On the inside, we get new brown leather upholstery. The steering wheel, instrument cluster and all other things are similar as before. We still get a 10.39 inch touch screen unit with connected car techs. The door armrests are also wrapped in brown leather. It would be better if they wrapped the steering and gear selector / lever in the same brow leather.
The main highlight here is the six seats. The middle row now gets captain seats with adjustable headrests and individual armrests. On the third row, there is not enough room but it still has AC vents and proper 3-point seat belts with headrests. It gets a big panoramic sunroof to bring in fresh air to the cabin. All other features are similar to the 5-seater variant.
