2022 Next Gen Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra Scorpio is due for a generation update and we will be getting in 2022 according to latest updates by Mahindra. First we will get XUV700 codename W601 as a successor of xuv5OO, Then the Scorpio will be available. But since there is a long span, Mahindra is rigorously testing it and all these details are collected using these test mules only. Next Gen Mahindra Scorpio is codenamed as Z101 and will be a major update for Scorpio in India.
Exterior Design
Starting from the exteriors, Mahinda Z101 is bigger in dimension than the outgoing Scorpio, how much? we don't know but it looks bigger. The body silhouettes are similar and inspired from the genes of Scorpio On the front it is equipped with dual Led projectors along with LED DRLs. In the centre there is a big grill with six vertical bars diving it into seven slats. It is somewhat like the pre-facelifted grill of current gen and 2015-16 XUV 500. The wider centre slats hosts the brand logo. Lower down the bumper looks similar to Bolero's X shape bumper and has honeycomb mesh in it. Lower there bar for mounting number plate which divides the bumper grill into two, So there are total three grills, one main fascia grill and two bumper grills.
The bonnet looks muscular and sculpted. On the side of bumper there is placement of fog lamps, but the shape isn't know yet. The fog lamp mounting forms an air-dam which looks purposeful to cool the brakes. We could also get a skid plate down there. The front stance of the cars gives a muscular and very rugged feel like Scorpio should feel like. Mahindra has given an example of Thar that how beautifully they transform a car to next generation and no one said that this is worse, previous was better. Same hopes for Next gen Scorpio.
Now coming to the side profile, it looks boxy like a Scorpio should look. It gets a strong bulging shoulders matching to the machoness of the car. The last row window design looks inspired from XUV as it has got the bottom curves similar to XUV. The ORVMs are big rectangular and looks electronic to me. It will have roof rails, should be functional and a shark fin antenna on the roof, might also get sun roof. The wheels are ten spoke unit or rather dual 5-spoke units with MRF Wanderer tires. I feel the design of wheels could be more better.
On the rear we will get a side opening tail gate, a roof spoiler and that shoulder bulge will continue to the tailgate as well. The number plate could be mounted under a chrome plate. There are no design hints on rear tail lights but will be LEDs. There is also a rear wiper but the glass area seems small.
Interior Design
Now in the interiors, the next gen Scorpio will get a 3-spoke flat bottom steering wheel with mounted audio controls. The instrument cluster will get two bid analog dials for speedo and tacho while a colour TFT sits in between. The infotainment looks like a 10" unit and is housed between vertical Air con vents. Below it lies physical button for the screen and further down are controls for dual zone HVAC system. The cabin is garnished with brushed aluminum inserts. Two USB ports are visible along with 12v outlet. The handbrake is also mechanical as lever is clearly visible
Engine and Chassis
It will be powered by 2.0 mStallion petrol engine and 2.2mHawk diesel powering the Thar and it will also get the same 6-speed manual and AGS automatic transmission. It is a ladder frame SUV and the platform is hared with Thar with some modulations here and there. This means that it will also get good results in crash tests. Mahindra Thar 2020 has scored 4 stars in crash test and Scorpio had scored zero with no airbags back in time.
Availability & Price
Next gen Mahindra Scorpio is expected to launch in first quarter of 2022 and we are expecting a price range of 12lakhs to 20 lakhs. It will be interesting to see if the customer of this price range, the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass will consider it buying or not. Scorpio has a cult following which makes it sell even today with very less features and safety.
