Maruti Suzuki XL6

  Introduction 

Maruti Suzuki has one of the best MPVs in the country just after the Innova. But, there is almost a price difference of a class between these Innova ans[d Ertiga. Maruti Suzuki xl6 wanted to fill the void and have that piece of the pie too. So basically what Maruti has done is taken the Ertiga, change some body panels and make it a premium car. The Suzuki XL6 is available through Nexa platform. How is XL6 different from Ertiga and is it worth? Let's find out

  Powerplant & Driveability

K15 BSVI engine

The Maruti Suzuki xl6 gets an all-new K15 hybrid engine. This engine has bee developed in house by Maruti. This 1462cc inline-4 cylinder engine produces 103 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque. This engine is BS-VI compliant hence a future friendly. This engine is very punchy and refined. It uses Smart Hybrid technology which helps in achieving a fuel efficiency of 19 kmpl in manual and 17 kmpl in the automatic variant. Yes, it is available in both automatic and manual gearbox. Both are quite a slick-shifting gearbox and contains the charm of Ertiga. The manual is a 5-speed unit and automatic is a 4-speed unit as in the case of Ertiga. We can In future maybe Maruti will launch the diesel variant too but, it is also uncertain due to BS-VI norms.

The steering is carried over from the Ertiga which is already a fantastic car, so no complaints here. The braking is also good and regenerative helps in charging the battery. It would be better if we got a thicker rubber. The car is light at 1.2tonnes and is easy to maneuver despite a long one.

  Exterior

This is where Maruti Suzuki xl6 feels fresh and a different car. Maruti has given it an SUV kind of look rather MPV on which it is based on. On the front, we have a tall, muscular bonnet. On the hood, we get a quad-LED headlamp setup with DRLs ad in the same housing, lower down lies turn indicators. The front grille is more extensive, and the DRLs continues in a two-strip chrome line and holds the Suzuki logo in the centre. Lower we get an edgy bumper which houses round fog lamps which are also LEDs and sports an aluminium bash plate, typical SUV element to prevent it scraping. 

XL6 rear

Moving on the side and it will remind you of Etriga but with some tweaks. Here we get roof rails, squared-off wheel arches with thick body cladding running along with the car. The cladding is just thicker on wheel arches and makes the 15inch wheel look small. It deserves bigger wheels. The current setup is 185 / 65 R15 on all the four wheels. The B and C pillars have been blackened out, and D pillar is also blackened in a way that it gives a floating roofline look. 

Moving on the rear and car disappoints, the rear is carried over from Ertiga and feels MPV like despite on other angles the car feels like SUV. But on the back too we get a skid plate to appeal the SUV look. The tailgate doesn't look fine.

  Interior

On the inside, the steering wheel has carried over from Eritga and even the instrument cluster, and you look around, the infotainment display is also the same and the dash too. The difference is only here we get a dark theme, and the wood garnishing from dash and door panels has been replaced with a stone finish. Rest everything is same in the front.

As we look a little back, we see captain seats in the middle row, and they are super comfy and adjustable too. The corporates are going to love them. On each captain seat, we get foldable armrests. The third row is the same and roomier as before. The captain seats do not recline the way bench seat used to do so it is easy to access the third row from the centre space. 

Boot space is 205litres same as Ertiga, which can be increased by reclining the third row.
