Introduction
Jeep Compass is a mid size SUV launched by Jeep in 2017 in India. It is one of the capable SUV in its segment as it gets AWD and rest of the competitions are pseudo SUVs with just FWD. It is the first Made in India Jeep and the car is exported from here to different RHD markets. Jeep compass rivals with Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Hyundai Tucson. We are in 2020 and let's see what Jeep has to offer us.
Engine & Transmission
Jeep Compass is available in both petrol and diesel option. There is a 1368 cc inline-4 cylinder, turbocharged DOHC petrol engine. This produces max power of 160 bhp at 5500 rpm and max torque of 250 Nm at 2500 rpm. Then we have a 1956 cc, inline-4 cylinder, turbocharged multi-jet diesel engine. This engine is a Fiat-sourced diesel engine. It produces 171 bhp of max torque at 3750 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. It is also used in Tata Harrier and MG Hector as well. The 1.4L petrol engine is mated to a 6-speed manual Transmission and a 7-speed DCT Automatic Gearbox. The diesel engine is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 9-speed Automatic Transmission. The petrol engine puts power to the ground through the front wheels while diesel uses Front wheels and AWD system as an option.
Exterior
Jeep compass looks like a baby Cherokee. Starting from front, it gets the signature bold Jeep grille, the seven vertical slats, these are highlighted in chrome border and gets honey-comb mesh in between. We get the Bi-Xenon projector headlamp with LED DRLs. Below the headlamps we get halogen fog lamps in a black surrounds, and chrome outline as well. The bumper looks quite muscular, and lower half is made with Black cladding plastic. There is a chrome strip running above the front skid plate.
Coming to the side of the car we get a trapezoidal wheel arches with black plastic all round the lower part of the car. It protects the paint and give it a SUV appeal. We get alloy wheels between those wheel arches, on lower spec it is a 16 inch wheel on mid-spec and off road-centered Trailhawk we get 17 inch but different designs on high spec variant we get dual-tone diamond cut 18 inch Alloy wheels. 16 and 17 inch are single coloured wheels expect for the Trailhawk. There is a big panoramic sunroof and roof rails. The B-pillars and C-pillars are finished in matte black and there is a chrome strip above the windows which separates roof from the side and give i a floating roof appearance. The lower half of ORVMs is finished in chrome in mid spec variant and is available in gloss black with dual tone options. The compass badging is done on the front door with chrome. Coming to the rear of the vehicle, the chrome lines runs from the side of the car and underlines the rear boot glass. The LED tail-lamp cluster mimics like the front. Lower, we get a black plastic bumper with skid plate and rear reflectors as well. The rear top-mounted spoiler gets a LED stop lamp as well.

Interior
Jeep compass gets a plush and luxurious dual tone interior. We get a big 3-spoke, leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls. The instrument cluster is analog unit with big dials, tachometer on the left and speedometer on the right and a 8.89 cm MID in between. Moving further, we get a big 8.4 inch touch screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and UConnect connectivity. The screen lies between two trapezoidal Automatic Air-con vents with piano black finish all around. The driver seat is 8 way power adjustable and 4-way power adjustable for lumbar support so you can tune in for your liking. There is a driver armrest with storage and doubles up as air conditioner vents for rear passengers. The AC is a dual tone automatic climate control but rear passengers doesn't get controls.
The seats are wrapped with white leatherette material and are complimented by red stitching all around. Rear seats gets a middle armrest with cup holders. The boot space offered here is 438 L and can be boosted upto 1098 litres with rear seats down. The rear seats are 60:40 split seats.
Safety
Jeep compass gets up to six airbags with full side curtains to stop the impact reaching the passengers. It gets ABS and EBD standard across the range. Electronic Stability control ESC varies the traction and braking according to the terrains. It gets Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descend Control, and drive modes. The adaptive cornering lamps help to view the blind spot on sharp turns, it gets auto dimming IRVM and more such safety features. Jeep claims that there are over 50 safety features and security controls in this car.
