 Bajaj Dominar 250

  Overview

Bajaj Auto is one of the versatile bike manufacturer in India, they have nearly all segments of bikes available in their group. Dominar sits as a power cruiser in Bajaj line up. It is based on the CS400 concept shown in Auto expo 2014. This concept saw the roads in 2017 as Dominar 400. After few years on march 11, 2020 Bajaj launched the Dominar 250 in Indian Market. It is based on Dominar 400 and gets its heart from Austrian KTM Duke 250. Bajaj had the Avenger 220 for the cruisers but for hyper riding they introduced us to a smaller Dominar, It competes with Yamaha FZ-S 25, Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Royal Enfield Classic 350.

  Engine & Transmission

Dominar is powered by the engine borrowed from KTM Duke 250, as Bajaj owns 49% of stakes of KTM India. The engine has been de-tuned and equipped with twin spark plugs. It has been tuned to give us optimum highway performance as well as to return great fuel efficiency number. This 248.8 cc single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected, DTSi engine produces 26.6 bhp at 8500 rpm and 23.5 Nm of max torque at 6500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via wt multi-plate clutch and fueling is controlled with an electronic fuel injection system.

  Styling

Aesthetically, there are very minor changes to distinguish it from the 400 counterpart. The headlamp, tank and rear section looks identical. It gets full LED headlamp as seen on 400. The tank is muscular and offers the same capacity at 13 litres. This one will have a slightly more range because of the fuel economy. Rider gets a plush split seat setup. The seat height is at 800 mm so it is easy even for shorter riders, but the weight is on higher side. It weighs 180 kgs which is much consider the quarter-litre segment. The rear section is also the same. It gets the same beefy twin barrel exhaust for that raw grunt.  Only difference in the looks is that 400 gets dual-tone alloy wheels, while it gets just black with same design.

  Brakes, Wheels and Suspension

Bajaj has made changes in this department of the motorcycle. The motorcycle is under pinned by the same perimeter chassis. The wheelbase remains the same. For the suspension we get front Upside down forks but theses are of 37 mm, KTM and 400 uses 43 mm. For the rear it still gets the mono gas charged shock absorber. It gets 17 inch alloy wheels for front and rear but the tires have been downsized. It gets 100/80-17 in front and 130/70-17 in the rear. For the braking, since the power is less Bajaj has considered to decrease the equipment. In the front it is equipped with 300 mm disc and rear gets same 230 mm disc with floating calliper. It gets dual channel ABS for added safety.
