MG Astor is the latest entry to compact Crossover SUV segment from Morris Garage. It is internal combustion engine variant of ZS EV, This one however is the facelifted version of it. Compact SUV segment is currently the hottest selling car segment in India and everyone wants a pie of it. So MG has tried their cards with many First in segment features. MG Astor goes against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Nissan Kicks and other cars of the segment.
Engine & Gearbox
Astor is powered by tow engine options, both being Petrol. The VTi Tech petrol engine is a 1498cc naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 110 Ps and 144Nm. This can be opted for a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT for automatic gearshifts. The other engine is called 220Turbo and it is a 1349cc turbocharged engine producing 140Ps of max power and 220Nm of torque. This is only available with 6-speed Torque converter automatic gearbox.
Exteriors
MG Astor boasts more crossover design than a SUV. On the front it has a bold celestial grill with chrome garnish and MG logo in centre. On the sides of grill, it has Hawkeye shaped headlamp cluster with LED DRLs. It is a dual beam single LED projector setup with chrome elements inside. Lower it has Fog lamps mounted on the bumper with piano black surrounds. It gets honeycomb mesh on the air dam and a radar too. Lower down there's black cladding running all around for SUV styling.
On to the sides, it has matt black finish on B pillar and C-pillar, Gloss black finish on the ORVM. There is a chrome line underlining the window area upto the quarter class. On the front fender, it has British Flag badge. The door sills are equipped with thick plastic cladding. The wheel arches are circular with thin cladding and filled in by 17 inch turbine inspired Dual-tone machined alloy wheels. On the top it gets a big panoramic sunroof and faux silver roof rails. It also gets shark fin antenna and subtle rear spoiler.
On the rear, taillamp cluster is similar to headlamp and gets all LEDs, it looks premium and modern. It has a big MG logo in centre which flip opens the boot. Lower it has rear foglamps in the housing similar to front fog lamps. Lower part of bumper is black with twin fake exhaust tips and fake black skid plate. The rear design is tried to match with the front one.
Interiors
From the inside MG Astor looks very luxurious and premium. It has dual-tone Sangria Red-Black interiors. The steering is a flat-bottom unit wrapped in perforated leather with silver accents. It has a n 8-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, it has tons of features to offer. In the centre it mounts the AI Assistant and below that horizontal AC vents with silver finish. Below that, it has 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen unit laid down horizontally and slightly tilted towards driver. It gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity. Side AC vents are circular in shape. The dashboard and centre console is wrapped in red leather, top and lower part of dashboard gets black plastic material. Gear selector gets leather wrapped with silver surround and carbon fibre finish on plastic panel. The seats are comfy and offer good support, it gets red faux leather material and perforation.
