Tata Punch revealed officially, Review, Price, Specs || MotoJunkie.in

Tata has unveiled it's micro SUV Punch. It was showcased in Auto Expo as HBX concept and looked cute little rad. Design is very close the concept except for the big skid plate knobby MT tires and some other accessories. Punch is placed lower than the Nexon and it is built on the latest Alfa-Arc platform, same which underpins the Altroz. It also get Impact 2.0 design language so, tri arrow design everywhere. Tata Punch is a segment lower than Nexon and goes against with Mahindra KUV 100 NXT, Maruti Ignis and other similar car. What Tata has to offer us with the Punch, let's see.

  Engine & Gearbox

1.2L Revotron petrol engine
Tata Punch is powered by 1.2L 3-cylinder NA SOHC petrol engine. It pumps out max power of 84 bhp at 6000 rpm  and 113 Nm at 3300 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. This same configuration has also seen on Tata Tiago/ Tigor/ NRG and now on punch as well. There is no option of diesel engine from Tata due to BS6 regulations. Power is send to the front wheels, Punch has a new Traction Pro Technology, available with AMT only, It senses that the front wheels are stuck and lost traction and then only a popup on infotainment screen will come, whether to use Traction Pro mode or not, If yes then it guides how to get the vehicle out. On Punch Test Drive it seems to work. Punch gets two drive modes: Eco and City and Idle Start Stop System for saving fractions of expensive petrol.

  Exterior

Design of Tata punch resembles it's concept very much. It looks like a "Baby Harrier". On the front, it has split headlamp setup, DRLs are mounted top on the bonnet. The grill is a horizontal piano black slat like we saw on the Nexon. On the left there is a slight tri arrow vents in the grill for the horn. Below the grill, it got Signature chrome Humanity line. The headlamps sits in a Harrier like cluster, Low beam is a projector with high beam halogen. Projector has hexagonal chrome surrounds, rest it's blacked out inside. The bumper is made of black cladding plastic to add SUV elements to the car. It has Tri arrow vents for air-dam and circular halogen fog lamps.

On the sides, Punch has plastic cladding all around, from front to side and then to rear. The door sills gets very thick plastic, typical SUV elements. The A, B and C pillars are black, the roof is contrasting, in Red and Blue its White and rest colour options gets black roof. It kind of gives a floating roof line, and has silver roof rails. The ORVMs also come in same colour as the roof.

Rear door handle is neatly tucked in the C-pillar, giving it a very clean look. Lower it gets squarish wheel arches and these are filled in by 16 inch dual-tone, diamond-cut alloy wheels. Lower variants gets Hyper Style steel wheels with wheel covers, these are steel wheels but they are cut in such a way that when paired with suitable wheel covers, it looks like alloy wheels.

On the rear we get a roof coloured integrated roof spoiler. The rear tail gate is sculpted and macular. Om the sides we get wrap around LED tail lights. The outline design of cluster is similar to the front one. The tail lights also gets tri arrow design element. Lower the bumper is black plastic and mounts reflectors.

  Interiors

The interiors of Tata punch are not too striking, not too basic, they are subtle and will age well. The steering wheel and instrument cluster are already seen on Altroz and they are borrowed without any make over. It is a flat bottom leather wrapped wheel with controls mounted, steering wheel get tilt adjustment. Beside the 7in digital analogue instrument cluster, Punch has floating 7-inch touch screen infotainment unit which get IRA connected car tech along with Navigation. This screen is paired with 6-speaker sound system . Below the screen it has body coloured surrounds for AC vents. The centre layer of dashboard gets white panel, to add details it has tri arrow pattern on it. It gets single zone automatic AC whose controls are bit lower placed as in the case of Altroz. The seats are fabric and again gets lots of tri arrows on it, but none of them looks too much. Driver seat is high adjustable too.

In the rear the seats are comfy, gets two adjustable headrest, and an armrest. The floor is almost flat and makes it easier for middle passenger. Talking about easy things, Punch has 90 degree door opening which making getting in and out very easy.
